Tony's Patter

Some Like it hot!! - Have we or have we not had a great summer. However, for many of you it has been uncomfortably hot at the flying field and we certainly had a scorcher at the fly-in and BBQ on 2nd July.

The day itself was a great success and our thanks go to those members who helped setting up and also those who brought along some shade in the form of tents, etc.

A special thanks must go to Andrea who prepared and cooked a great BBQ with a little help from some other nice ladies. She must have sweated off pounds in that heat!!

Everyone enjoyed the flying, but commiserations to Mr Stall Roberts on crashing his Hurricane and to Mr Folding Wings Choney for smashing his trainer.

Winter Field - we will be back on 14th October (thanks to Chris N). To date no work has started on the proposed motorway service station, but it is only a question of time, so please keep looking out for a replacement flying site.

Flying Field Discipline - Many Members are frequently disregarding the rules, so in particular will all of you:

  1. Always display a frequency flag on your transmitter.
  2. Always fly circuits in one direction when passing near the runway.
  3. Always call your intention when flying along or to the runway such as "landing", "touch & go", "low flyby" (always at low throttle) "overshoot", etc.
  4. Leave mobile phones in the pits - they are distracting if they do ring and there is evidence they may upset transmitters.
  5. Never fly at high speed down the centre of the strip.
  6. If you do a high speed pass ensure that:

Remember the runway is primarily for take off and landing; it only takes one glitch, failure or error to cause a serious accident.
You may be banned from flying if you are in breach of these safety rules.

Club Meetings - (2nd Wednesday in each month)

These are costing £20 a month and are generally poorly attended. This will be discussed at the AGM on the 8th November to see what members want and to consider any alternatives or, do we discontinue using the venue with those members still interested meeting once a month in a pub for a noggin and a natter?

Club Fuel - I now have a stock of synthetic (5% Nitromethane, 2% Castor, 16% ML70, 77% Methanol) at £8:50 per gallon. Also Castor based (5% Nitromethane, 18% Castor, 77% Methanol) at £7:00 per gallon. Please contact we when required and I’ll bring it to the field or club meeting.

Don't forget the Christmas Dinner - Alan is taking bookings now so hurry up and contact him to reserve your places.

Happy Landings              TM

Trophies

Can I remind all those holding Trophies to please return them to one of the committee members before the AGM so they may be awarded to this year’s deserving recipients.

Summer BBQ & Fly-in

As Tony said, above, this 2nd July was HOT with a slightly gusty wind but that didn't stop a very good turn out of people and planes (see foot of this page.)

Geoff Ward demonstrated electric has come of age with his electric conversion of a .60 sized ARTF Spitfire more than holding its own against the i.c engined versions. Indeed so much power was on tap that the propeller "growl" sounded more Merlin like than the 4-stroke powered versions.

Look No Silencer - The Clean Lines of Geoff's Spit.

Twins were also much in evidence with Tony's Canberra, below, still cutting the grass on low passes

Ian’s Twin Also Put in a Spirited Performance

With no public, beginners and 'A' certificate holders were able to fly quite safely.

Fred's P47 (above) and Mark’s Spitfire (below) also put in excellent displays.
