Records show that the club has been in existence for more than 60 years. Several members have been in the club for more than 30 years. In the early days the emphasis was on free flight and control line and two purpose built control line circles were built next to the A3. which can still be seen on Google maps, see this link here. If you look closely the white circles can still be seen marked on the tarmaced area. Radio control flying "took off" in the 1960's and the club had the use of Fairoaks for several years before moving to a farm at Chessington which we used from 1970 to 1997. |

We have given model displays for over 30 years and originated the "Symposium" concept of exhibition and display at Brooklands College in 1967. After several larger Symposiums at Kempton Racecourse, the organisation started to get in the way of flying - which is, after all the whole point, and we bowed out of these large events. At about this time the Sandown Club was formed from our club, and they continued the symposium tradition at Sandown Park whilst we continued to hold smaller annual shows. If any members or ex-members have photographs, negatives or slides from the Club's past activities please contact me as I would be delighted to have a pictorial history of the Club on this page |
